Introduction and Application of Magnetic Components

In almost all power supply circuits, magnetic components are indispensable inductors or transformers. For example, inductors are used at the input and output to filter out harmonics of the switching waveform; in resonant converters, inductors are used to resonate with capacitors to obtain sinusoidal voltages and currents; in buffer circuits, inductors are used to limit the rate of change of the current of a power device; in step-up converters, to store and transfer energy; and sometimes inductors are used to limit the transient current of a circuit, and so on. And transformers are used to electrically isolate two systems from each other, to transform voltages or impedances, or to produce phase shifts (3-phase Δ-Y transforms), to store and transfer energy (flyback transformers), and to detect voltages and currents (voltage and current transformers). It can be said that magnetic components are one of the most important components of power electronics.
